An in-depth guide for the Lone Worker App (version 5.0.1).
About your new device.
Our Lone Worker App is an easy to use application that transforms your smartphone into a lone worker device.
How it works
The diverse range of lone worker environments means a growing demand for lone worker devices, lone worker apps and accessories.
The app allows lone workers to create timers, check in and raise alerts – all from their very own smartphone.
A simple press of the panic button will raise an alarm in The OWL Portal and open an audio channel to our dedicated response team.
If you don’t use our response team, LONEALERT will initiate the calls, SMS and email notifications that you have designated as part of your response.
An ideal choice for hybrid and remote workers.
Flexible
Our Lone Worker App is a great option for hybrid and office workers and can be used in low risk environments across many different industries.
Peace of mind
Lone workers can check in and respond to timers, and with advanced GPS technology the app ensures you can find your lone workers in the event of an emergency.
Connected with The OWL Portal
After downloading on your tablet or mobile device, our Lone Worker App transforms your device into a lone worker safety device. From here it is possible to create timers, check in and raise alerts. All of this can be monitored in The OWL Portal.
Free download
Our lone worker app is free to download on the App Store and on the Google Play Store.
Lone Worker App features.
- When logged in to the app the device will display a persistent notification letting the user know that GPS monitoring is active, this helps the user to know that the app is running in the background, and that they should log out when they have finished lone working.
- When setting a timer the user can provide additional location details with a timer message, this can supplement the device’s GPS location.
- When the user has an active timer, the app will display a notification letting the user know when their timer is set to expire.
- The app will notify the user when their timer is due to expire, by default this is 10 minutes before the timer expires but that duration can be changed in the app settings.
- The user can raise a panic alert from anywhere within the app.
- When used in conjunction with the Bluetooth Switch the user can raise an alert without having to interact with their device, provided that the Bluetooth Switch is within range of the device (~25m indoors, ~100m outdoors).

App permissions and why they are needed
Location
Location, precise locations are collected by the app in the background and can be used to help to locate you in the event of an alert.
Fitness
Fitness data, used to determine whether your device is moving and if a GPS location should be collected, this helps to preserve your device’s battery.
Used in conjunction these two permissions mean your device location can be updated as often as needed, if for instance it is travelling in a vehicle it will update more frequently, if it is on a desk it will update less frequently.
It is important that the user sets these permissions correctly, as the app may not work as expected without the correct permissions.
