Security Work

Lone worker protection for security professionals

Security guards face various risks as they carry out their duties and, while people depend on security guards for safety and security, it is important that they feel safe too. The risks facing lone workers in the security industry include working in new and unfamiliar areas, often during unsociable hours and periods of low contact with peers. They also face the risks of intruders, aggressive or intoxicated members of the public, and periods of time working in unspecified locations.

LONEALERT’s lone worker protection solutions make sure that whatever type of security your business is involved in, your security personnel have a support network in place to protect them at all times – not only from physical harm, but from verbal attack that they might face during work.

LONEALERT is used by a variety of security companies throughout the UK and Ireland. These companies often take advantage of the Management suite included with LONEALERT. The management suite allows admin users to view all activity of security guard lone workers, including check-ins and locations. We can map locations in real time or show a ‘breadcrumb trail’ of a users’ past locations. LONEALERT also has the ability to add Geo-fences to our user maps, allowing management to be alerted when a staff member is located inside/outside a specific site.

Our risk assessment

To carry out a risk assessment you need to think about what might cause harm to your employees and decide whether you are taking the reasonable steps needed to prevent any harm.

A risk assessment is something you are required to carry out by law. We have teamed up with lone working specialist trainer Jackie Dolan and created a comprehensive risk assessment for people working an office.

LONEALERT Solutions for lone security workers:

As with all sectors the level of risk depends on the employee’s job role - which can differ drastically throughout the day. Looking after multiple staff with high & low level lone working risks can be a difficult task. We have a variety of solutions that will help you, all of which are controlled by The O.W.L, so you can mix and match solutions to suit your needs. The O.W.L allows you to set up personalised or companywide escalation procedures that will come into effect as soon as an alarm is raised.

Access from any computer via the O.W.L

LONEALERT Access:

What is it?

Accessed via The O.W.L, landline, mobile phone or smartphone, LONEALERT Access is a simple, cost effective solution to benefit lower risk roles within this sector.

How it can work?

A guard is required to monitor a site for 12 hours an evening, checking in once every hour. With Access, the guard simply calls in from the landline, logs in through the app or sends an SMS. He repeats this every hour until his shift ends. If he misses a check-in then The O.W.L will raise the alarm. A panic button allows him to call for urgent help if needed.

LONEALERT Instant:

What is it?

The Instant solution includes all products within the LONEALERT Access range, and adds access via a range of dedicated devices. GPS equipped with fall detection, panic and one button timer creation.

How it can work?

Paul responds to a call on a large site, with his vehicle tracking following him. He gets to site, and nothing is obviously wrong, so he leaves his vehicle to take a closer look, wearing his Instant device. He presses a button and creates a short timer that will alarm promptly if he doesn’t extend. Every 5 minutes, his GPS updates on The O.W.L so we know exactly where he is on site. It’s dark, and the risk of slips and trips is high, but the fall detector provides re-assurance that if an incident occurs, help will be called, as does the panic button if needed. Safely back in his car, he logs out of his timer event with the push of a button.

LONEALERT Plus:

What is it?

Plus includes LONEALERT Access, and all the safety features of Instant, but adds high durability, IP67 rated devices, with LCD screen for improved user feedback and advanced notifications, with Bolt-Ons for indoor locating workers. Also includes an ATEX intrinsically safe option if required.

How it can work?

Paul is guarding a number of sites on patrol, as with Instant, he has the same level of protection and safety features. However, a requirement of the contract is to prove attendance at each site, and at various locations within the site. The Man Down Plus rugged-ness gives it a benefit, but the real benefit here is the RF-Tags Bolt-On. At various locations at each site, Paul holds the Plus unit against the RF-Tags and this logs time and attendance on The O.W.L, which can be downloaded and exported to be sent to the client as proof of attendance.

LONEALERT Anywhere:

What is it?

Including all products within the LONEALERT Access range, the Anywhere solutions is great for those who work in outdoor areas with very limited mobile signal.

How it can work?

One of the sites your company guards is notorious for having extremely poor mobile signal. One of our Anywhere devices is then either left at site, or issued to the guard on duty that day and when they arrive at site, they simply use the Anywhere to check-in and out, and if needed raise a panic alarm.
